Laboratorio de Cartolab/VideoLab

The Advanced Visualization and Cartography Laboratory (videaLAB/cartoLAB), located at the School of Civil Engineering of Elviña Campus, in addition to the Shared Advanced Visualization Room of the Center for Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering Technology (CITEEC), focuses its activities on the development, research, and innovation in the field of graphical representation technologies applied to the territory, infrastructure, and construction. Its lines of research range from visualizing built or projected works, historical, environmental, landscape, and cultural heritage to geospatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) of infrastructures, facilities, and territories, as well as the human activities occurring within them. Its main areas of research can be classified into:

  • Geospatial analysis of infrastructures and territories
  • Cartographic systems for public participation
  • Advanced visualization in construction
  • Recreation of heritage and virtual archaeology

The technological domains used for this purpose, cartography and GIS on one hand, and 3D visualization on the other, articulate this laboratory into two interconnected spaces: cartoLAB, where work more oriented towards the treatment and analysis of geographic information takes place, and videaLAB, where projects for graphical visualization in infrastructure construction, building, and territory are carried out. Multidisciplinarity is a fundamental component in the research conducted, enabling the generation of results and applications highly useful for multiple sectors.
