Estefanía Calo García
Professor Estefanía Calo works on lines of research related to urban sociology, territory, and housing. She holds a Bachelor with Honours in Social Sciences from the University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland and a Ph.D. in Sociology with international mention from the Universidade da Coruña (UDC).
She is currently a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences at the UDC where she teaches, among others, the subject of Urban Sociology and Territorial Planning. She has also taught at the University of Vigo, the University of Extremadura, and the University of Milagro, in Ecuador, and has collaborated on various research projects with other institutions such as the University of Santiago de Compostela.
She has carried out different research stays in different institutions such as the Centre for Urban History at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom (2012); the ISCTE-Instituto del Universitário de Lisboa (2019); the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2020-2021); and the University of Barcelona (2022), where she has collaborated with research groups related to the study of the city and the relationship between the population and the territory.
He has published several articles in renowned journals and has participated in international conferences presenting papers related to the study of the city, housing, and territory, specifically linked to the analysis of residential needs, residential policies, the right to housing, and the city and the study of different urban processes such as gentrification and touristification. All this work is also linked to issues of sustainability and environment and the new social relations associated with the common good and degrowth.
