Roberto Samartim (Redondela 1971). PhD in Galician Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela and lecturer in the Department of Literature at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He studies the functioning of cultural fields, especially the literary field, and the political and ideological processes related to them, applying empirical, systemic and sociological methodologies and focusing on the relationships between narratives, territories and communities.
Among the results that can exemplify her research interests are A Dona do Tempo Antigo. Mulher e campo literário no Renascimento Português (1495-1557) (2003, Carvalho Calero Research Award 2002), Mudança política e sistemas culturais em transiçom. Literatura e construçom da (ideia da) Galiza entre 1974 e 1978 (which compiles his BA and PhD theses), or the databases of the Livro galego no período autonómico (1978-2019) and the Produtos Culturais sobre os Caminhos de Santiago (1991-2020).
Since 2012, his research focuses primarily on the study of the impacts of discourses linked to the Pilgrims' Roads to Santiago on the local community , in this case also aimed at studying the relationship between this issue and images, practices and tourism and cultural policies.
Co-directed Agália. Revista de Estudos na Cultura (2010-2016) and was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Philology at the UDC (2011-2013). Secretary General of the Associação Internacional de Lusitanistas (AIL, 2011-2014), he co-edited Avanços em Literatura e Cultura... (2012; 11 volumes) and Estudos da AIL em... (2015, 6 vols.) and was also Responsável de Comunicação and editor of www.plataforma9.com (2014-2018).
