One of the main aims of our research group is to share in R & D Projects financed by public official institutions. The combination of the different members of the group’s research interests led to a common proposal to study literature and film which promote an ecocritical view of contemporary culture and literature.

Our first research project, entitled in Galician "Ecoloxía humana: as literaturas e culturas de Estados Unidos desde a etnocrítica e a ecocrítica" (i.e. "Human Ecology: Literatures and Cultures of the United States from the Perspectives of Ethnocriticism and Ecocriticism"), was funded by the Galician Innovation and Industry Council's "Programa de promoción xeral de investigación do Incite 2007" ("Incite Program for the improvement of general research 2007"), for an initial period of three years.

The resolution of the official funds announced by the Galician Education and University Planning Council (Consellería de Educación e Organización Universitaria) for the consolidation and the organization of the Galician University System's (Sistema Universitario de Galicia) competitive research unities was published in the Diario Oficial de Galicia (the Galician government daily publication), dated August 31, 2007. CLEU was provided a two-year period funding (with the possibility of another extension) within the modalidade de grupos emerxentes promovidos por investigadores mozos (i.e. the "category of new groups promoted by young researchers"). The second annuity was cofinanced by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) of 2007-2013.

Thanks to this support we have been able to strengthen the group through the incorporation of research assistants and the organization of events. Our intention is to continue improving the group and fostering its international projection by increasing the number of publications and our participation in international projects and networks.
