The research activity of the staff asigned to the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences includes relevant lines of research in the field of Sociology and Political Science (social capital and organizations, demography and urban sociology, local development, inequalities and social structure, feminist and gender studies, migration studies, welfare state and care, economic and market sociology, fashion sociology, tourism, crisis and collective risk management) and in Audiovisual Communication, advertising and journalism (interactive audiovisual communication, usability studies, media and mobile devices, new audiences, audiovisual sector, corporate communication, new forms of radio communication).
Great part of the Department staff is organized in research groups, which bring together researchers around the same thematic line or specialty, although some members of the Department develop their research individually.
The quality and research excellence of the members of the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences has been the object of repeated recognition through the granting of projects in competitive calls, aid for consolidation and structuring, networks of research excellence... as well as securing six-year periods of research.
The research staff of the Department is composed of professors, but also includes significant number of people in training, who obtained predoctoral contracts in competitive calls (FPU, FPI) and also staff with postdoctoral contracts (Juan de la Cierva, InTalent, Ramón y Cajal).
