Exposición Emigrantas: emerxer do silencio

4/1/26 1:37 PM

The exhibition “Emigrantas: emerxer do silencio” can be visited at the Kiosko Alfonso (A Coruña) between March 11 and May 3. The exhibition, organised by the Consello da Cultura Galega and curated by Antía Pérez Caramés, Keina Espiñeira and María Alonso Alonso, features exhibition design by Uqui Permui.

“Emigrantas: emerxer do silencio” recovers and gives visibility to the experiences of Galician women in migratory processes—stories that for decades remained absent from the official versions of history. Through historical archives, artistic installations, audiovisual materials, correspondence, objects and recorded testimonies, the exhibition offers a broad and rigorous overview of the multiple dimensions of female migration: departure, arrival, work, learning, resistance, community life and return.

The Library of Sociology and Communication Sciences has collaborated on this project by preparing a bibliographic guide that brings together documentary resources related to the theme of the exhibition, sourced from the Library of the Universidade da Coruña and the Library of the Consello da Cultura Galega.

The cover image of the guide is the work of Uqui Permui.

The exhibition invites visitors to analyse and deeply understand the narratives of emigrant women, to critically revisit inherited silences and to collectively reconstruct a shared memory that helps interpret the present in the light of the past.
