Prior to being hired by the University of A Coruña (English Studies), Eduardo Barros Grela was a professor at the University of New York (1998-2002), at the California State University (2003-2007), and a Visiting Guest Professor at Claremont Colleges, California (1999 and 2000). He was also a Research Assistant at the Humanities Institute of New York (2002-2003), and a Guest Researcher at the Institute of European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley (2010-2011).
Author of more than sixty chapters and articles, he has been editor of several collections, and editor of three academic journals. He has completed three collections of essays: one on Irish Cultural Studies, another one on Popular Culture and Cultural Studies, and another on American Secrets. He is currently finishing a manuscript on Irish film.
He was Head of the Section of English Studies (2017-2019), and during the period 2014-2017 he acted as Secretary in the former Department of English Studies. He is currently Director of the Observatory of Society and Alternative Narratives in Cultural Studies (CSSAN-UDC), a permanent research seminar on Critical & Cultural Theory, Alternative Narratives and Society, and Coordinator of the Research Group "Irish Studies".

Dr. David Clark is a lecturer at the University of Corunna and director of the University Institute of Research in Irish Studies “Amergin”. His doctoral thesis dealt with Neil M. Gunn’s literary work. He is co-editor, together with Professor Antonio de Toro Santos, of As Noves Ondas, and is the author of numerous articles published in academic journals of Spain and other countries.
Collaborator of several cultural activities (radio programmes, television, articles and interviews in the Galician press) designed to bring Irish and Galician cultures closer to each other.
PhD teaching: subjects related to 19th and 20th century literature, as well as subjects dealing with the history of Scottish and Irish literatures (“Scottish Literature before the Union,” “Contemporary Scottish Poetry,” “Contemporary Scottish and Irish Narrative” and “Points of Inflection between Irish and Scottish Literature").
Imparted seminars and summer courses in collaboration with several universities in Spain and abroad: “I Practical Course of Translation (English-Spanish, Spanish-English)," “Guiding Reading of Joyce’s Ulysses” and “Conference on the British Periphery”, organized by the Junta de Andalucia.

Margarita Estévez-Saá es Profesora Titular de Literatura Inglesa y Americana en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (USC). Es autora de El problema de la caracterización en la obra de James Joyce: el artista y sus personajes (2001), coautora, junto con Anne MacCarthy, de A Pilgrimage from Belfast to Santiago de Compostela: The Anatomy of Bernard MacLaverty’s Triumph over Frontiers (2002), y ha coeditado, entre otras publicaciones, los volúmenes Silverpowdered Olivetrees: Reading Joyce in Spain (2003); Nuevas perspectivas críticas en la literatura irlandesa (2003); “The Scallop of Saint James. An Old Pilgrim’s Hoard”: Reading Joyce from the Peripheries (2007) y “Ireland in the Coming Time”: New Insights on Irish Literature (2007). Estévez-Saá es secretaria de la Sociedad Española James Joyce, editora de la revista académica Papers on Joyce y ha publicado numerosos artículos sobre James Joyce, Muriel Spark, Doris Lessing, P. D. James, Janet Frame, Deirdre Madden, literatura moderna y postcolonial, literatura irlandesa contemporánea, teoría crítica y crítica feminista.

Dr. Eduardo de Gregorio Godeo

El Dr. Eduardo de Gregorio-Godeo imparte asignaturas de Estudios Culturales Británicos y de Lingüística Aplicada en la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real (España). Especialmente interesado en cuestiones de género y prensa escrita, ha publicado ampliamente a propósito de la instrumentalidad de la Lingüística y los recursos del Análisis del Discurso para el análisis de las prácticas culturales de representación y construcción identitaria. Doctor by the Universidad de La Laguna with the thesis D.M. Thomas y la renovación formal de la novela inglesa contemporánea 1989.
Full Professor of Anglophone Postcolonial Literatures at the Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife, Canary Islands, interested in the relationship of the human being with his non-human environment, from eco-poetry, interactive observation of the landscape and the relation of the sensitive self with nature agent and eloquent. He has published several essays on contemporary authors such as John Fowles, D.M. Thomas, Salman Rushdie, Shyam Selvadurai, Sunetra Gupta, Jamie O’Neill, Ana Castillo, Sandra Cisneros, Abelardo Delgado, and Ricardo Sánchez, among others. He has edited The Painful Chrysalis. Essays on Contemporary Cultural and Literary Identity (Peter Lang 2011), Realidad y simbología de la montaña (UAH 2012) and co-edited Revolving Around India (s) (CSP 2019). He currently manages the Center for Canadian Studies, and publishes RCEI (Canary Islands Journal of English Studies) and Canadaria (Canary Islands Journal of Canadian Studies). He was elected president of EASLCE (European Association for Studies on Literature, Culture and the Environment) from 2014-2016, president of AEEII (Spanish Association for Interdisciplinary Studies on India) from 2014-2019 and is president of the Spanish Association James Joyce.

Dr. Noemí Pereira Ares

Noemí Pereira-Ares centra su actividad investigadora en torno a la literatura multi-étnica escrita en lengua inglesa, los estudios postcoloniales, transculturales y de diáspora, la teoría de la moda, así como el estudio sociológico del vestido en literatura. Al amparo del Programa de Formación de Profesora Universitario del Ministerio de Educación ejerció como Personal Docente e Investigador en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, donde completó su tesis doctoral en 2015. En calidad de Investigadora Visitante ha sido miembro de la comunidad investigadora del ‘Centre for Postcolonial Studies’, Goldsmiths College, University of London, en 2013. Noemí Pereira-Ares ha participado en varios proyectos de investigación y es miembro de dos grupos de investigación: Grupo de Investigación de Referencia Competitiva ‘Discurso e Identidad’ (GI- 1924), de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela y Grupo de Investigación ‘Literaturas Contemporáneas en
el Ámbito Europeo’ (HUM858), Universidad de Málaga. Noemí Pereira-Ares ha participado de forma activa en conferencias especializadas, ha publicado diversos artículos académicos en revistas nacionales e internacionales y es autora de la monografía Fashion, Dress & Identity in South Asian Diaspora Narratives: From the Eighteenth Century to Monica Ali (Palgrave Macmillan).

Prof. Antonio R. de Toro Santos

Founder and former director of The Amergin University Institute of Research in Irish Studies
Antonio Raúl de Toro Santos was a Professor at the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Coruña, and secretary of the University Institute of Research in Irish Studies “Amergin” of the same university. He has directed several research projects financed by the Xunta de Galicia and the University of Corunna, such as “La literatura anglo-irlandesa en la prensa periódica en España desde 1900 hasta 1960 a través de traducciones y ensayos críticos”, “La literatura inglesa en la prensa periódica en España desde 1900 hasta 1960” or “Escribiendo la literatura inglesa desde la periferia: Escocia, Gales, Cornualles, Irlanda".
Being an important researcher in the field of Irish Literature, he has published along his long career several outstanding works such as Galicia desde Londres (Relacións entre as culturas galega, inglesa e irlandesa a través dos programas da BBC, 1947-1956), A historia d’el rei Breogán e dos fillos de Mil, asegún o Leabhar Gabhalao, Poesía irlandesa contemporánea (considered one of the first contemporary book of poems including the most brilliant Irish modern poets, in a bilingual edition in English and Galician).
Another of the most important fields of study of Professor de Toro is related to the study and reception of one of the most international authors: James Joyce. He has published several books and articles, including the outstanding Joyce en España (I) and (II), in collaboration with Professor Francisco García Tortosa of the English Department of the University of Seville. It is also worth mentioning his contribution to the study of the Irish writer with the publication of James Joyce in Spain: A Critical Bibliography (1972-2002), in collaboration with Luis Alberto Lázaro.
He is currently working on several ambitious cultural projects such as the postgraduate course “Irlanda: sociedad, territorio, tecnología”, considered as one of the first interdisciplinary courses on Irish studies in Europe. He is also the director of the first online PhD programme on Irish Studies in Europe.

Dr. Elizabeth Woodward Smith

Elizabeth Woodward-Smith es profesora titular de Filología Inglesa en la Universidade da Coruña, España. Se licenció en Filología Inglesa y se doctoró en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Previamente se había licenciado en Español y Francés en la Universidad de Bradford (Reino Unido). Sus líneas de investigación incluyen la historia y cultura de las Islas Británicas, las referencias culturales en la literatura inglesa, la traducción de los conceptos culturales, la traducción del humor y el análisis lingüístico y cultural del discurso publicitario.
Sus publicaciones han aparecido en revistas españolas e internacionales. Es editora de tres colecciones de artículos sobre la diversidad cultural: Aspects of Culture (2002), About Culture (2004) y Approaching Cultures through English (2007), todos publicados por la Universidade da Coruña. Es coeditora de un volumen titulado Pathways to Language, Culture, Communication and Identity (2016). Forma parte del grupo de investigación “Literatura y cultura inglesa moderna y contemporánea” (CLIN) del Departamento de Letras, UDC.
