The III Equality Plan 2024-2027 was created in response to the new legislative changes and with the essential objective of promoting equality and equity between men and women within our institution.
The diagnosis that preceded the drafting of the III Equality Plan revealed the persistence of certain gender asymmetries that affect the University community. Gender stereotypes are visible in the configuration of the student body in the degrees, so that the presence of men is very small in those related to care, while that of women is very small in those in the field of certain engineering. This situation, socially accepted and normalized, is a symptom of inequalities, since a society must be built in a balanced and common way, otherwise it will be impossible to eliminate inequalities.
The design and drafting of the III Equality Plan of the University of A Coruña has been a collective task that has involved many people from different sectors, who have been able to contribute their experience in their commitment to equality and democratic values. This new plan is the result of the work done in the two previous Equality Plans. They were the beginning of a line of work aimed at achieving results in the short, medium and long term. Aware that there is still a long way to go, this III Plan contributes to the definition of realistic strategic lines of action, committed to a university that implements policies with a gender perspective, leading the university community to become aware of the various problems related to male violence, gender inequalities and normalized inequalities against women. It is a matter of continuing to deconstruct the macho culture in order to build a new culture of equality.
