The "Isidro Parga Pondal" University Institute of Geology is the result of two Galician entities: the University of A Coruña and the Laxe Geological Laboratory (The Isidro Parga Pondal Foundation). This has so far been materialised in diverse research and scientific activities, among which can be included the development of joint theoretical and practical research projects, the co-publication of scientific works and the organisation of monographic courses, conferences and scientific congresses.
The Institute is multi-centred and taking into account the wide range and diversity of disciplines related to Geology, it is also multidisciplinary. All disciplines which are directly related to Geology have a place within the Institute, as do other disciplines which are developed in other centres of the University of A Coruña.
The institute aims at providing an integrating centre for all disciplines or academic areas which, although not strictly pertaining to the field of geology, are intensely related to this, thus allowing a more rational use of the resources of the University of A coruña and of such a completely galician institution as the Laxe Geological Laboratory which is deeply rooted in the culture, history and science of Galicia.
