The dHabitat project is a result of the two decades expertise of Arquitectos Sin Fronteras, the lack of teaching experiences and sensibilization in the habitability field which can be detected in the Galician education community. Trying to cover that shortfalls a group of faculty of the ETS of Arquitectura of A Coruña is added to the project.
The Right to Habitat is recognized in Article 25.1, The Human Right to Adequate Housing, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and Article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966). However, this right is recognized in a global context of population with more than 7.000 million of habitants, of which between 14 and 28% live in extreme poverty, without housing and essential resources such as water drinking.
In this context, ASF-Galicia and the University of a Coruña come together an action of formation and sensitization, primarily directed at future technicians responsible of the constructions and management of the habitat. The ultimate goal is not only to achieve a word more just and soliday, claiming the right to the habitat as an essencial and basic need to live with dignity and security and to freely develop personality and participate in community life.
From this global overview of the problem, the project also includes the creations of an international network of universities for the exchange of experiences, collaboration, shared management of knowledge and resources and, ultimately, the understanding of the complexities inherent in the strategies of basic habitability in very different contexts.
Under these considerations, this platform is intended to be a meeting point as well as a repository of resources and experiences.
