What are they?

These are courses carried out remotely, accessible through the Internet, to which any person can sign up (generally they do not have a limit of participants)

They are free of charge? They have an open and free of charge character (study materials are free access), it is possible that in some platforms the issuance of certifications is charged.
What value do they have? The self-training offers you the possibility of set up a specialized and differentiated curriculum. The self-training can focus on completing the credits of the degree, introduce yourself in other subjects or you can also expand leisure and personal skills.

The main platforms that offer MOOCs are :

   Miriada X

Platform of Ibero-American universities and institutions, is currently the most important platform in Spanish, presents courses of all kinds and all categories of knowledge.
 

  Mooc INTEF de Educalab

Platform developed by the INTEF (National Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training) aimed at the training of non-university teaching staff.

  ScolarTIC

Oriented towards the training of non-university teaching staff.

  edX

Founded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in May 2012, this platform offers courses in several languages, including Spanish.

  UNED Iedra

The National University of Distance Education in Spain, UNED, offers within its portal a platform of online, distance and free of charge courses on all subjects that can be dealt with within the university environment.

  Coursera

Platform that includes both English courses translated into our language and material created specifically by Spanish-speaking universities of Spain and Latin America.

  Stanford MOOC

Considered one of the best universities in the world Stanford, in California (United States) has its own platform of MOOCs that offers dozens of topics to address that often coincide with the subjects of the different university degrees, including technical degrees, medical or for academic professionals.

  MIT OpenCourseware

Platform of open courses of the Institute of Technology of Massachusetts offers dozens of courses on all the possible subjects; although many of the courses have already been completed, the materials that were used are available and published on the website of each course.

  CMU Open Learning Initiative

Carnegie Mellon University maintains an on-line platform with a multitude of specific and more general courses on various topics: education, psychology, mathematics, STEM, languages ... They are completely free and available 100% through the Internet, with no expiration date.

  UPVX

The Polytechnic University of Valencia launched the UPVX initiative, a repository of massive and open online courses.
