Homage to Kandinsky

Dynamic Ellipses |
This work aims at transcribing in the acoustic domain the basic point and line shapes and some complex ones built from those simple shapes, as defined by Kandinsky in his Bauhaus writings. During the performance of the piece, the music played by the violin is matched with a visual animated transcription of the corresponding shapes. Kandinsky defines a point as a minimal visual unit. Its shape can be minimal and irregular or perfectly round. He defines a line as the footprint of a moving point. Therefore, a line results from the dynamic composition of a point moving towards a goal. A curve is built by means of the simultaneous action of two forces acting upon a point.
In the live performance of "Lines", the composition of the moving points is animated in response to the sound of the violin. In the live performance of "Dynamic Ellipses" an animated visual avatar is created capturing the movement of the arc of the violin.
