Course leader: Jmail Nawel, Hadriche Abir
Home Institution: Sfax University
Course Overview
The goal of our proposed course is : firstly to present the most commonly used techniques for biomedical signals analysis. Then, to instant tangible examples of their application for diagnosis purposes of epilepsy and multiple sclerosis diseases.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of our course, students would be able to analyze and preprocess biomedical signal using: basic discrete-time signal and system types, impulse and frequency response concepts for linear signal, time-invariant systems, Fourier transforms, z and inverse z transform, basic digital filter design in order to understand, predict and study biomedical processed signal. This would be a solution that assist doctor during diagnosis and patient for a better wellbeing.
Course Content
In our proposed course, we will introduce biomedical signal, biotechnologies and e- health trends. Then, we will present tools to study and preprocess this kind of signal using advanced tools of signal processing as : studying analog vs numerical signal by discretization, z and Laplace transform, time invariant systems with several types of filters, frequency and wavelet transform for a better comprehension and analyze of the preprocessed signal. Finally, we will present 2 ways of studying an electrophysiological signal for epilepsy using Matlab and for Multiple sclerosis using Python.
Instructional Method
Basically our proposed course will rely on different instructional approaches lectures provided by Dr Jmail and Hadriche, where we will introduce biomedical signal and reputed tools used to preprocessed 2 types of neurological diseases then we will propose also group projects as direct application for signal processing tools ( frequency , wavelets study , filtering techniques.)
Required Course Materials
It will be interesting for students to have a version of Matalb or Python software.
Assessment
We propose group project to evaluate the students learning, these projects will be about several techniques used in preprocessing of biomedical signal using either Matlab or python software to resolve such problems.
