Horizon Europe is the research and innovation (R&I) framework programme of the European Union (EU) for the period 2021-2027. The Horizon Europe Programme, like its predecessor Horizon 2020, will be a fundamental instrument for carrying out EU research policies. The general objective of the program is to achieve a scientific, technological, economic and social impact of EU investments in R&I, thus reinforcing its scientific and technological bases, and promoting the competitiveness of all member states.
With a budget of 95,517 million euros for this seven-year period, Horizon Europe will be a framework programme with greater funding tied to data, with the potential to generate important economic, social and scientific benefits. It is estimated that Horizon Europe, for every euro invested, will generate an 11 euro increase in gross domestic product (GDP), create up to 320,000 new highly qualified jobs by 2040 and consolidate European leadership in Research and Innovation. The program is designed with an investment mentality rather than a purely financial instrument, and planned to assist the EU transition towards a prosperous and sustainable future.
