The main target of Rural 4.0 is to bring new additive manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing, to activities related to the rural environment. Thus, it tries to develop new polymeric materials suitable for 3D printing, recycling waste generated by agroforestry activities. Finally, the aim is to explore new products that can be made with these materials and which are useful in rural areas.
Participating entities: Empresa Municipal Aguas de La Coruña, Ecoplas Barbanza, Abakal Ingenieros Consultores, Innolact
Duration: March 2018 - September 2020
Synthesis of new polymers with less environmental impact is one of the targets of this project. Furthermore, it will evaluate the viability of dairy whey and urban sludge as new ways of resources to suitably synthesize biopolymers for industrial applications .
Participating entities: METALFRA, INDUSTRIAS DEL TABLERO, S.A. (INTASA)
Duration: July 2015 - December 2017
Research on a particle board with higher performance and lower emissions of organic volatiles is the main target of this project. To achieve this goal, new additives and nano-reinforcements have been investigated, as well as new transformation processes to achieve the benefits sought by reducing the environmental impact of the current board
Participant entities: Grupo Antolín-PGA SA, Grupo CIMA-Universidade de Vigo
Duration: December 2013 - March 2015
Developing new concepts for the guides of side windows is the main focus of the project. The combination of polymers and metal structures, in a flexible and fabricable concept with the production rate and quality level required by the automotive sector, was the handicap of the project.

The improvement of wood gluing in the manufacturing process of medium density boards (MDF) has been investigated through the introduction of lignocellulosic nano-fillers in adhesive resin formulations.
Participant entities: ACCIONA INFRAESTRUCTURAS, S.A.
Duration: 2 years (2013-2014)
In Duraport, new structures made entirely or partially of polymeric materials were tested as structural elements for the construction of port infrastructure.
Duration: September 2010 - August 2013
In the recycling of post-consumer plastics, it is important to control the degradation products that may arise in this process. In this project, new methods of identification and quantification of these organic compounds have been developed to ensure the safety use of recycled PET in food contact applications.
Participant entities: TELEVES, S.A.
Duration: July 2010 - December 2012
The main objective of COMPOCONDAR has been the replacement of metallic materials with lighter conductive polymers with a lower cost of energy in their processing. The development of new polymeric injection moldable polymeric compounds has been the main target of the project.
