A case of multidisciplinary training, research and development" at the IES Alexandre Bóveda in Vigo (Pontevedra) on February the 10th and at the IES Monte Castelo in Burela (Lugo) on February the 17th, within the Scientific Dissemination Program of the UDC in the 2024/25 academic year
QANAP Group participated in the Galician Night of Researchers G-NIGHT (https://gnight.gal/), denwithin the initiative of the European Night of Researchers, giving interactive workshops for the general public on September 27, 2024.
It took place at the parrote in the city of A Coruña, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our workshops were themed around the problem of environmental pollution, and were aimed at the general public
We continue to bring our research closer to society. On this occasion, in June, the students of the 1st year of the Higher Cycle of Chemistry and Environmental Health of the IES Monte Castelo at Burela visited the IUMA. They took the opportunity to visit the "Domingo Quiroga" Environmental Documentation Center and published the news on their website:

In December the 16th the students of de 2nd year of the Higher Cycle of Chemistry and Environmental Health and the students of Medium Cycle of Laboratory Operations of the IES Concepción Arenal (Ferrol) visited us.
Following the UDC Scientific Dissemination Activities Program, members of the IUMA visited on January the 17th students on Bachillerato course of the IES Cabo Ortegal (Cariño) and the ESO students of the CPR Plurilingüe Jaime Bames (Noia); on January the 25th the 1st year of Bachillerato students of IES David Buján (Cambre); on January the 16th, 3rd and 4th course of ESO students from IES A Guía (Vigo); on February the 6th, the 1st year of ESO students of the IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal - Zalaeta (A Coruña), on April the 2nd, the ESO students of the IES Marqués de Sargadelos de San Ciprián, Cervo (Lugo) and on April the 18th, IES Sardiñeira, FP Students.
From January to June 2023, the QANAP group has been conducting workshops on the study and analysis of microplastics and their environmental impact at the IES de Oroso (Sigüeiro), IES Terra de Trasancos (Narón), IES Urbano Lugrís, IES A Sardiñeira e IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal (A Coruña). Targeted at Secondary, High school and Vocational Education and Training students, within the program of activities of Scientific Dissemination of the University of A Coruña.
Once again, the QANAP group from the University of A Coruña participated on May 6th in the 27th edition of Science on the Street Day (A Coruña) and on June 10th in the 5th edition of Cullerciencia Fair (O Burgo, A Coruña), conducting experiments so that the entire audience could become aware of the issue of ocean pollution caused by microplastics and take steps to reduce it. They also carried out experiments to assess the air quality we breathe in our homes and cities. This showcases how our research can contribute to improving the environment in which we live.
Yesterday, members of the IUMA gave the talk: "ICTs and the Environment. Multidisciplinary training, research and development", within the UDC Scientific and Technical Dissemination Campaign for the 2022/23 course, to students of 1st Bachillerato at the IES Concepción Arenal de Ferrol.
Members of the IUMA visited the students on the 1st course of Bachillerato of the IES David Buján in Cambre (A Coruña) on January the 16th to give a talk, and on February the 8th the students on the 1st course at the IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal - Zalaeta in A Coruña ESO, within the program of Scientific Dissemination activities of the UDC
On February 24th and 27th we received at IUMA the visit of students from the ciclos superiores of FP on Chemistry and Environmental Health from CIFP Ángel Casal (A Coruña) and Education and Environmental Control from CIFP A Granxa (Ponteareas). They learned about the research projects that we are developing and visited the air quality station and the laboratory where we explained our research related to air quality.
And on March the 14th, the 1st year students of the Higher Cycle of Chemistry and Environmental Health of the IES Monte Castelo de Burela, visited us. They took advantage of the opportunity to visit the "Domingo Quiroga" Environmental Documentation Center.
On November 18th and December 2nd we received at IUMA the visit of students from 2nd CM Laboratory Operations and 2nd CS Chemistry and Environmental Health from IES Concepción Arenal (Ferrol) and from 1st year of Bachillerato from IES María Casares (Oleiros). They learned about the research projects that we are developing and visited our air quality station and laboratory where we explained our research related to air quality.
The University Institute of Environment (IUMA) has participated in the Open Gov Week 2022, a global initiative promoted by the Open Government Partnership, which main objective is to get the governments closer to the citizens. In this year the idea was to emphasise the visibility of the organizations that participate in European Research Infrastructures. The Institute was invited through ACTRIS (Aerosols, Clouds and Trace gases Research Infrastructure) in Spain, as the IUMA is an associated partner of this European infrastructure and collaborates on some measuring campaigns. The attendees have been able to learn first-hand about the work being done at the IUMA as a participant facility in ACTRIS. They have visited the Air Quality Monitoring Station and have seen the instruments used to measure pollutants like ultrafine particles or black carbon. They also have spoken with the technical and scientific staff of the Institute, who have explained their work and have answered their questions. In addition, they have had the opportunity to discover the Pazo de Lóngora, which, in addition to being the headquarters of the IUMA, houses the Domingo Quiroga Environmental Documentation Center (CEIDA) in the old rehabilitated stables, which makes it the largest environmental center in Galicia.
Science fair organized by the science club of CEIP Plurilingüe Ría do Burgo, with the main sponsorship and collaboration of the City Council of Culleredo. It was held on the promenade of the Ría do Burgo throughout the day on Saturday and involved schools and the University of A Coruña as well as various science entities.
Numerous families came to our tent where they participated in experiences to learn about the problem of pollution of the oceans by microplastics and become aware to reduce it. They also participated in experiments to learn about the quality of the air we breathe in our homes and in the city.
