20140221Domino265x200 In 1914, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret designed the Maison Dom-Ino in response to the massive demand for accommodation in the Flanders region, devastated by World War I. The proposal is a completely independent skeleton of the functions, able to support a house. To be manufactured with standardized, highly mechanized and combinable pieces, which would allow a broad organizational freedom of the habitat. The architectural response fits in to a context with shortages of machinery and energy and with a workforce composed mainly of women and youth in need of gainful employment. The surrounding of ruined buildings offer the elements that would make up the enclosure of these reinforced concrete structures, while the rubble is cleaned all over the country.
