The exhibition "Memory sticks" was officially opened on 1 October 2014. The photographs exhibited in the basement of the Oza University Building and in the Library itself, were grouped according to the theme to which they refer, with an explanatory text for each theme.
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, held on 1 October at 13:00 hours in the Assembly Hall of the University Building of Oza, Xosé Luis Armesto Barbeito (Rector of the University of A Coruña), Francisco José Vilanova Fraga (Manager of Integrated Management of CHUAC), Antón Fernández García (President of the Teaching Commission of CHUAC), Francisco Javier de Toro Santos (Head of the Rheumatology Service of CHUAC), and Carlos González Guitián (Head of the Library Service of CHUAC) took part in the opening ceremony. The event was attended by the Deans of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Physiotherapy, the Director of the Nursing School of A Coruña, the President of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Galicia and of the Professional Health Associations, as well as a large representation of Health Sciences professionals.
The opening ceremony was broadcast on UDC TV. In the days following the opening, the curator of the exhibition, José Manuel Varela Camacho, and the director of the Oza University Library, Carmen Uriz López, were interviewed live on the programmes "Voces de Galicia" on RadioVoz and "Hoy por hoy A Coruña" on Cadena SER.
Methodology. The book "El Sanatorio Marítimo de Oza", coordinated by the sadly deceased doctor Fausto Galdo Fernández, served as a reference and motivation, because although at the beginning the intention of collecting snapshots of Oza was limited to the old Pavilion of Colonies (today reformed as University Building), the reading of these texts that cover and detail all the historical periods and diverse vicissitudes, motivated the exhibition to "grow" in size and complexity.
All the photographs are arranged in groups according to the theme to which they refer, grouped around an explanatory text that contextualises them. The thematic groups are: the Chapel of Santa María de Oza, the Fort and Lighthouse of Oza, the Lazaretto of Oza, the Beach of Oza, the Pavilions of the Sanatorium of Oza, the gardens of the Sanatorium of Oza, the school colonies, the people, the "Fernández Latorre" Surgical Pavilion, the Pavilion of Colonies and the University Campus of Oza.
As for the process of collecting and selecting the photographs, an important part of the exhibition is made up of images included in the documentary collections of the Sanatorio Marítimo de Oza transferred in 1989 by Insalud to the Archive of the Kingdom of Galicia. The material found in the "Fondo Villar" in the Municipal Archive of A Coruña was also of great help. The determining factor in the selection criteria was undoubtedly the content of the images, as it is a sample of an illustrative nature, which is why, in some cases, although the visual "quality" is not the desired one (a fact derived from the age or deterioration suffered by the original supports), it was considered appropriate to include them for their testimonial value.
A selection of the photographs that were part of the exhibition can be found on a Pinterest board. Another board on this application contains the photographs that, for various reasons, did not form part of the exhibition. And finally, another board contains all the photographs that appeared after the exhibition opened, and will continue to be open to new additions.
The press dossier compiles all the articles and photographs published in national newspapers since 1888 related to the Sanatorio Marítimo de Oza, the school colonies, the lazaretto and other topics covered in the exhibition.
