European Dimension

 

Objectives:

•  To promote active European citizenship among senior students.
• To acquire new knowledge and skills with an active and participatory methodology.
• To improve the skills and competences already acquired by the students.
• To strengthen attitudes and abilities: to learn to learn, and to learn to collaborate.
• To adjust to the needs and potential of each individual learner.

Academic Years 2011/2012 and 2012/2013:

 

Senior Universtiy of A Coruña was involved in a Grundtvig Learning Partnership named "More than Neighbours", from 2011 to 2013, with partners in Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy and Belgium.

Main objectives:

• To promote the interaction between European senior citizens by internet, email and in project seminaries.
• To analyze the own identity in order to create a common European identity.
• To foster the foreing languages learning.
• To improve the ICT learning.

 

History of European Dimension of Senior University of A Coruña

The involvement of the Senior University in the development and implementation of European projects started in 2003.
It has continued without interruption until the present academic year 2012-2013.
During this time, the Senior University has participated mainly in Learning Partnerships.

 

 

2003-2006: European Senior Citizens’ Storyboard
The overall objective of this Learning Partnership was to promote a sense of belonging to a common Europe, and interaction amongst senior citizens, encouraging learning and sharing knowledge about cultural heritage using new technologies, and developing English language skills as the project language.
Students published their personal stories on a project website which were then commented upon by all the other learners.
This project involved partners from Italy, UK, Finland, Belgium, Germany and Spain, and lasted three years, between August 2003 and July 2006.
 

2006-2009: Routes towards Europe
The RTE Project brought together several educational institutions to explore the dynamics of active citizenship in a European cultural context. The partners strongly shared the view that the growing demographic of European senior citizens has an increasingly important role to play in society through involvement in local and regional projects.
Study groups in partner countries discussed themes of identity, explored historical routes and studied English and ICT. Participants exchanged information, ideas and opinions on the project website.
Partners from Italy, UK, Finland, Germany and Spain, were involved in this Learning Partnership, which lasted 3 years.
 

 2009-2011: Our Continent – Our Culture

The OC-OC project examined the various ways Europeans have contributed to, and are contributing to, the composite culture of Europe. The Partnership addressed European culture with a focus on the participating countries.

Language Learning, Identity, Active Citizenship, European Cohesion and Understanding, together with intergenerational linking and communication technology studies, were aspects of the project.
Partners from Italy, UK, Finland, Germany, Portugal and Spain were involved in this Learning Partnership, which lasted two years.

When the projects has been finished, the University of A Coruña signed cooperation agreements with several partners.

Our Belgian partners are senior students of Spanish language from Het Perspectief (Adult Education Center) of Ghent, which enabled us to carry out various academic activities with an European Workshop named "Rosalía de Castro".

 

The general objectives of the European Workshop "Rosalía de Castro" were:

• Strengthening the European identity amongst the senior students.
• Working for an active European citizenship
• Promoting mutual understanding of different cultures, through literature.

All around the three axes of memory, territory and identity.

Among the specific objectives were:

• Knowing the importance of Galician literature.
• Learning about other European authors.
• Promoting the use of New Information Technologies.
