The University of A Coruña announces annually Special Awards in the first term of each academic year.
This award is open to students who have completed their studies at the UDC in June or September of the previous academic year.
Applications, in the form of a written request addressed to the Most Excellent and Magnificent Rector, must be presented in the Registry of the Centre in which the student finished the degree. No copy of the academic record need be included.
Applications will be appraised by a tribunal which will be created to this effect by the Council of the Centre, in accordance with the regulations. Once these have been considered, the results will be announced on the Centre notice-board. Applications can appeal against the decision in the period of ten days. These appeals will be heard by the tribunal.
When the results are known, the Council of the Centre will send their proposals to the Rector via the Dean.
The Governing Council will announce the Awards after examining the proposals.
The Governing Council's decision ends the administrative process. Any further appeal must be one of administrative litigation.
Special Awards for students of Diplomas, Technical Architecture, Degree Courses, Architecture or Engineering will be granted by the Governing Council after proposal by the Centre Council.
Special Awards will be granted for each degree or other qualification, from among the students who have finished their studies in June or September of the previous academic year. The maximum number of awards per degree and per academic course will be one for each sixty -five students or fraction thereof who finish their studies in that academic year.
The assessment of applicants for special awards will be made by one tribunal for each qualification. This tribunal will be formed by three permanent teachers and must be approved by the Centre Committee at the request of the Dean or Director, after consultation with the Heads of Department. The council will also decide which member will act as president.
These special awards will be announced by the Rector during the first term of the course which follows that corresponding to the awards.
This announcement will establish the time limit and the documents which applicants must present.
To qualify for a special award the student will need to have an average grade of A (sobresaliente) on his/her academic record. In exceptional circumstances, a student may opt for a special award with an average grade of B (notable) if no student with an A average has qualified in that academic year.
The procedure for calculating the average grade mentioned above will be based on the following table, in order to homogenise degrees from different syllabuses.
Aprobado (C) - 1; Notable (B) - 2; Sobresaliente (A) - 3; Matrícula de h. (Distinction)- 4 in the number of credits for each subject.
Free-choice subjects will not be counted to calculate the average grade.
The special award will appear and be legally recognised on the student's academic record.
